There is confidence in Azerbaijan that future U.S. administrations will continue to develop partnership relations with Baku.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, made the remarks at the CAMCA-2026 Regional Forum in Baku.

He said that over the past two years, Azerbaijan had established strong strategic partnership relations with leading powers, including the United States and China, as well as with the European Union.

“As for China, we have established a comprehensive strategic partnership at the regional level and are working on its practical implementation. The second track is the United States and Azerbaijan. The Washington summit (Aug. 8, 2025 — ed.) was not devoted solely to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agenda. We used this opportunity to elevate relations between the United States and Azerbaijan to a qualitatively new strategic level,” Hajiyev said.

The presidential aide said Azerbaijan had faced certain challenges under previous U.S. administrations, while the South Caucasus and Caspian region had not received sufficient attention.

“Therefore, we wanted to bring the United States back to the region with a role and approach that, in our view, match its importance,” he added.

Hajiyev stressed that the peace agenda and peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia are of strategic importance to the entire region:

“We are confident that future administrations will continue to develop these relations, and that the U.S. side will continue to focus on the peace agenda and engage with the region through it.”

The CAMCA Regional Forum brings together participants from Central Asia, Mongolia, the Caucasus and Afghanistan to discuss regional cooperation and shared challenges. Azerbaijan’s ties with the United States, China and the European Union form part of its broader effort to expand international partnerships.
