Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made wide-ranging statements on foreign policy, regional security and the latest developments in the Aegean Sea while speaking to journalists on his return from an official visit to Syria.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service released the information, citing the diplomat's assessments.
According to the report, Fidan said that during his two-hour meeting with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa in Damascus, the sides discussed bilateral relations, economic opportunities following the lifting of sanctions and regional stability in detail.
The minister emphasized that Israel's aggressive policy was the greatest source of instability for Syria. He also said technical talks were continuing on institutionalizing the “Mecca Defense Alliance” emerging in the region, adding that Türkiye stood with Saudi Arabia, which faces threats from the south and north. Fidan said Ankara was closely monitoring the integration process involving the Syrian Democratic Forces and noted that the “Türkiye without terror” strategy enjoyed full public support.
Türkiye's foreign minister also addressed relations with Greece, urging Athens not to become a tool of forces seeking to plunge the region into chaos. He described the militarization of islands with demilitarized status as a direct threat to Türkiye's security and called on Greece to comply with its obligations under international treaties.
