The historic victory achieved by the valiant army under the leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief during the Patriotic War not only restored the territorial integrity and state sovereignty of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders but also created favorable conditions for the return of hundreds of thousands of compatriots to their native lands.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing AZERTAC, this was stated by Fuad Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, during a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) committees on Labor and Social Policy, Human Rights, and Legal Policy and State Building.
Huseynov noted that the Great Return, which is unique in global practice due to both its scale and the extent of destruction suffered during the occupation, is one of the five national priorities for socio-economic development in Azerbaijan through 2030.
The Great Return program represents a comprehensive state-led initiative aimed at the large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation of the liberated territories. Following the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, the Azerbaijani government launched massive infrastructure projects, including the construction of smart villages, international airports, and the restoration of cultural heritage sites, to facilitate the safe and dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes in Garabagh and East Zangezur.
