Metin Ozturk, vice-president of Istanbul club Galatasaray, has announced his resignation from all leadership positions. He linked the decision to an incident at a board meeting on October 27.
In a statement posted on social media, Ozturk said he could not accept being physically attacked at the meeting or his late mother being insulted. He said he had stepped down from the Galatasaray board and from positions at companies affiliated with the club, effective that day.
Turkish media reported that the dispute at the meeting involved Ozturk and another board member, Abdullah Kavukcu. According to journalist Burhan Can Terzi, Ozturk waited for club president Dursun Ozbek to respond before resigning, but no action was taken over three days.
Kavukcu also later resigned from his position. He described what happened as “a mutual verbal argument” and said the incident had been exaggerated on social media. Kavukcu said he decided to resign so personal disagreements would not overshadow the club’s reputation and goals.
Changes on the board
Ozturk had served as vice-president under Dursun Ozbek since June 2022. The source also mentioned Russian midfielder Aleksey Batrakov, who it said plays for Galatasaray.
