Starting today, entry to Baku Metro’s “Khojasan” and “Avtogar” stations is temporarily free of charge. Passengers entering the metro at these stations will be able to travel free of charge not only to “8 November,” but also to a number of stations on the Green Line via “Memar Ajami.”
"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that the decision aims to create additional travel options for passengers and improve the organization of transport flows in the city as part of the line separation project.
Bəxtiyar Mammadov, spokesperson for Baku Metropolitan CJSC, said that an increase in passenger numbers had been observed at the “Khojasan” and “Avtogar” stations since the morning.
According to him, passengers entering from both stations can travel free of charge not only to “8 November” on the Purple Line, but also to all stations located in the direction of Darnagul and Nizami via “Memar Ajami.”
Metro prepares for an increase in passenger numbers
Bəxtiyar Mammadov said that Baku Metro was prepared for an increase in passenger numbers.
The spokesperson said that passenger numbers had currently fallen by 35-40 percent on the Purple Line and by 50 percent or more on the Green Line.
At the same time, an increase in congestion and passenger flows has been observed in surface transport.
“As AYNA has also redirected certain bus routes in this direction, an increase in passengers has been noticeable since the morning,” Bəxtiyar Mammadov said.
He said the measure could have an impact, particularly in terms of regulating traffic flows in areas known as “20 January” and “Shamakhinka.”
Which metro stations can passengers reach free of charge?
The new option is intended to allow passengers arriving from several areas of Absheron and Garadagh districts to use the metro without entering the “20 January” and “Shamakhinka” areas.
Passengers entering the metro at the “Khojasan” and “Avtogar” stations will be able to travel free of charge to the following stations:
- “8 November”;
- “Darnagul”;
- “Azadlig Avenue”;
- “Nasimi”;
- “Memar Ajami”;
- “20 January”;
- “Inshaatchilar”;
- “Academy of Sciences”;
- “Nizami”.
Free entry will not be limited to one month
Bəxtiyar Mammadov also clarified one of the reports that had circulated.
The spokesperson said that reports claiming the measure would apply for only one month were incorrect.
According to him, the effectiveness of applying the decision for a longer period will be assessed, and the necessary steps will be taken based on the results.
“The effectiveness of extending this measure for a longer period will be studied separately, and the necessary steps will be taken,” he said.
Train intervals may be reduced
According to the spokesperson, depending on changes in passenger flows, additional regulation measures will also be considered on the Purple and Green lines.
These measures include reducing intervals between trains.
At the same time, based on monitoring and socioeconomic analyses carried out as part of centralized transport management, several bus routes are planned to be redirected directly to the “Khojasan” and “Avtogar” stations.
The measures are intended to expand alternative options for passengers travelling from the city’s entry routes to the center, reduce congestion in surface transport and distribute passenger flows more efficiently between the metro and other forms of public transport.
Baku Metro said the measures would provide more convenient alternative travel between the Green and Purple lines and the Red Line, while also helping organize passenger flows more efficiently during implementation of the line separation project.
