Explosions reported on two oil tankers in Strait of Hormuz

Explosions have occurred on two oil tankers attempting to navigate a route in the Strait of Hormuz, raising significant concerns regarding maritime security in the region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement attributing the incident to pressures exerted by the United States, which allegedly forced the vessels to utilize a dangerous and insecure route in the southern part of the strait. The explosions subsequently triggered fires on both vessels.

"As long as US attacks in the region continue, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed. Not a single drop of oil or natural gas will be able to pass through here safely," the IRGC statement emphasized.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as the primary transit route for a significant portion of global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Located between Oman and Iran, the strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Any disruption in this narrow waterway historically leads to immediate volatility in global energy markets, as it is a vital artery for energy supplies from major producers in the Middle East to international markets.
