A tanker carrying 750,000 barrels of oil struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media.
The mine explosion damaged the tanker and sparked a fire on board.
The crude-oil supertanker reportedly attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz along an unauthorized route when it struck the mine.
This is the third tanker to be damaged by a naval mine explosion in the Strait of Hormuz on October 10-11, the report said.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key shipping route linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. A substantial share of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes through the strait.
