Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will address the high-level General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, according to Anadolu Agency.
Heads of state and government from UN member states will use the debate to present their priorities to an international audience from the Assembly Hall in New York.
Erdogan’s expected focus
Brazil will open the General Debate, continuing a tradition in place since the 10th session of the General Assembly in 1955, apart from 1983 and 1984. The host country, the United States, will speak after Brazil.
Erdogan will be the fourth speaker on the first day, following Jordan. The address will mark his 16th appearance before the General Assembly.
His speech is expected to focus on Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, the need for the international community to recognize Palestine as a state and possible international measures against Israel.
Meetings and climate summit
During his visit to New York, Erdogan is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and leaders from various countries.
He is also expected to attend events with representatives of Turkish citizens living in the United States, members of the Turkish-American business community and think tank representatives.
On Wednesday, the Turkish president will deliver remarks at the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit.
Türkiye is set to host the UN’s annual Climate Change Summit, known as COP31, in the Mediterranean city of Antalya in November.
