Fenerbahçe has held a signing ceremony for head coach Emre Belözoğlu. At the event, held at Chobani Stadium, Belözoğlu and club executives Önder Fırat and Cihan Kamer answered questions from journalists.
Belözoğlu said returning to the club was a source of pride for him. He said he was aware of the fans’ expectations and wanted the team to reflect its quality and passion in its play. The coach thanked Kasımpaşa for facilitating his move.
The head coach said it would not be right to claim he had played a part in the victory over Liverpool. According to him, he met the players that day and shared his thoughts about the club, while Dirk Kuyt and his staff prepared the team. Belözoğlu said the club had assessed the matter and that he would have a coaching staff of 12 to 13 people, whose members would be announced soon. He said the staff would include six professionally licensed coaches and a Spanish assistant.
Belözoğlu said Fenerbahçe aimed to finish at the top in every tournament, and that no match or target would be treated as secondary. He said he believed in the squad and that they would work to build a passionate, high-quality style of play as soon as possible. The head coach also said it would be a special source of pride for him to face Arda Turan in the Champions League.
He said the club would also defend its rights before the Turkish Football Federation and the Central Referees Committee. Kamer announced that the club had parted ways with İsmail Kartal and said he firmly believed they would win the championship with Belözoğlu. Fırat also expressed the board’s support for the new head coach.
