Türkiye will not consent to any formula that does not serve Libya’s interests, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Chairman of Libya’s Presidential Council Mohamed al-Menfi during a meeting in New York on Monday, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
Erdogan and al-Menfi held a closed-door meeting at the Turkevi Center, also known as Turkish House, across from the United Nations headquarters. They discussed Türkiye-Libya relations, developments in Libya and broader regional issues.
Türkiye stresses dialogue and reconciliation
The Turkish president said Ankara was continuing efforts to support stability in Libya and underlined the importance of maintaining a process focused on dialogue and reconciliation.
Türkiye also continues work to expand cooperation with Libya in the fields of energy, defense and mining, Erdogan said.
Erdogan invites al-Menfi to COP31 summit
During the meeting, Erdogan invited al-Menfi to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, which Türkiye is scheduled to host in Antalya in November.
Because of its historical and cultural ties with Libya, Türkiye attaches great importance to the security and welfare of the Libyan people, the statement said.
