Security has been stepped up in Antalya ahead of the UN climate summit COP31. The conference will begin on Nov. 9 and continue through Nov. 20, AnewZ reports.
Antalya Governor Hulusi Sahin said 27,957 personnel from the police, gendarmerie and coast guard services would be on duty during the conference.
The event is expected to be attended by 91 heads of state and government and nearly 300 ministers. Security and transport preparations are therefore under way around the conference venue and Antalya Airport.
Security measures stepped up at airport and conference venue
The number of security personnel at Antalya Airport has been increased. Police are preparing for the arrival of international delegations and ensuring the safety of passengers and aviation operations.
A crisis management center has been set up at the conference venue. Police, emergency services, health authorities and other local organizations will coordinate operations there.
Separate areas have been designated for official meetings and public events. Access to the main conference facilities will be governed by UN accreditation procedures.
Transport and emergency medical preparations
Local residents expect the enhanced security measures to affect daily life. Resident Ozgur Kabakci said he considered additional measures understandable given the number of international guests.
“Security measures are strict, and considering the arrival of world leaders and officials, we think they are necessary. We are excited about the event, although the next 10 days may be difficult. But we understand its importance and will not complain,” he said.
A fleet of 630 low-emission buses provided by 25 municipalities will transport conference participants. Emergency medical services at the venue will be supported by five medical stations, seven operational ambulances and two reserve ambulances.
The conference will be held in two zones: the “Blue Zone” for official negotiations and accredited participants, and the “Green Zone” for exhibitions and public events. Security and logistics preparations are continuing as Antalya gets ready to welcome international delegations for the 12-day event.
