The Egyptian Football Association has announced that Hossam Hassan has been dismissed as head coach of the national team. Ali Maher has been appointed in his place.
Under a decision taken after a meeting of the association’s board, the contracts of Hassan and his coaching and administrative staff have been terminated in accordance with their terms. The federation said events in recent weeks had negatively affected the national team’s stability and image.
The association thanked Hassan for his work and wished him success in his future career. Earlier, Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation had banned Hassan from appearing in the media because of a public dispute with his former wife.
Hassan had led Egypt’s national team since February 2024. Under his leadership, the team qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time since 2018 and advanced to the round of 16. Egypt lost to Argentina at that stage.
