An inflatable emergency slide deployed on US President Donald Trump’s aircraft before he boarded at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the incident resulted from an error by military personnel.
Trump disembarked from a helicopter and waited for a while before later speaking to journalists on the runway.
Trump said there were no safety concerns. He said personnel had inspected the slide and the aircraft’s systems.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also confirmed that the necessary checks had been carried out to ensure all systems were operating properly.
The inspections delayed Trump’s flight. The aircraft later landed safely in Dallas.
Emergency evacuation slides are designed to allow passengers and crew to leave an aircraft quickly if an evacuation is required. Their accidental deployment generally requires additional safety checks before takeoff.
