Drugs have been found in a parcel sent by mail to an inmate at Prison No. 1.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry of Justice released the information.

The ministry said that citizens sometimes attempt to provide or transfer prohibited items to people held in penitentiary institutions. Several more such attempts were identified and prevented as a result of operational and search measures conducted by the operational unit of the Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service.

During an inspection of a parcel sent by mail to an inmate at Prison No. 1, 0.543 grams of dried marijuana, 0.716 grams of heroin and 0.567 grams of methamphetamine were found in packages specially concealed in the heel of a slipper.

In addition, during an inspection of a food parcel brought by the wife of a detainee at the Baku pretrial detention facility, 0.888 grams of heroin were found in four packages specially sewn and concealed in clothing.

An investigation is underway.

“Citizens are once again reminded that providing or transferring prohibited items to people held in penitentiary institutions entails criminal liability,” the statement said.
