The Polish Armed Forces have reported that an unidentified object entered the country's airspace during Russia's intensive missile strikes on Ukraine. The incident has triggered heightened alert levels across Poland's air defense systems.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, radar systems tracked multiple missiles moving over Ukrainian territory. At 03:29 local time, one object approached within approximately 5 kilometers of the Polish border. By 03:40, the object had breached Polish airspace.
In response, an F-16 fighter jet was scrambled to identify the object; however, it disappeared from radar screens at 03:46. Subsequently, a Mi-24 helicopter was dispatched to the area, identifying a potential crash site near the village of Tarnava-Kolonia in the Lublin region.
The Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration confirmed that police officers discovered a crater approximately 10 meters in diameter and debris belonging to the unidentified object during morning inspections. Local police in Lublin also received reports of a loud explosion in the vicinity. Law enforcement officials located the wreckage between the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary, situated roughly 2 kilometers from residential areas.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the incident, confirming the breach of Polish airspace amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. He stated that he has convened an emergency coordination meeting with the Minister of Defense and the heads of relevant security agencies to assess the situation and ensure national security.
Poland, as a NATO member state, maintains a highly vigilant air defense posture, particularly given its proximity to the conflict zone in Ukraine. The country frequently monitors airspace violations during large-scale aerial attacks in the region, emphasizing the importance of collective security and border integrity.
