Canada is holding talks with the European Union (EU) to join a loan allocated to Ukraine.

According to the report, the parties intend to agree on the amount Canada will contribute to the loan before the EU-Canada summit scheduled to take place in Montreal at the end of October.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is seeking to strengthen relations with Europe and reduce his country’s dependence on the United States through the move, the report said.
Earlier, it was also reported that Carney’s government wanted to expand ties with the European Union and was examining the possibility of Canada obtaining associate member status in the EU.
The EU has provided substantial financial support to Ukraine since the start of the war, while Canada has also supplied Kyiv with financial, humanitarian and defense assistance. The planned discussions are expected to focus on Canada’s potential contribution and the terms of its participation.
