Students from more than 120 countries have studied or are continuing their education in Azerbaijan.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks at the Conference on Strengthening Global Solidarity through Humanitarian Assistance and Cooperation for Development, dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan’s International Development Agency (AIDA).

He said a significant portion of Azerbaijan’s international assistance was directed toward education.

According to the foreign minister, as Azerbaijan developed and its state institutions grew stronger, the tradition of individual charity gradually evolved into a systematic state policy focused on humanitarian assistance, knowledge exchange and development partnerships:

“This continuity is particularly evident in education. In the second half of the 20th century, tens of thousands of students from countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America studied at Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions.”

He emphasized that this tradition is being continued today through the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant Program, programs for students from the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as training courses for foreign diplomats.

AIDA, established in 2011 under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coordinates the country’s international development assistance and supports projects in areas including education, healthcare, humanitarian aid and institutional capacity-building.
