The Main State Traffic Police Department (MSTPD) of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to drivers planning trips over the upcoming weekend.
According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", the department released a statement highlighting the anticipated rise in traffic intensity on major highways as travel to the regions increases.
"This situation requires heightened attention and responsibility from all road users," the MSTPD stated. "The Main State Traffic Police Department urges drivers planning trips to strictly adhere to traffic regulations. Drivers must consider that long-distance travel requires not only the technical soundness of the vehicle but also the driver's physical and psychological readiness."
Authorities emphasized that operating a vehicle while fatigued, sleep-deprived, or distracted significantly increases the risk of road traffic accidents. "Adhering to speed limits appropriate for road and weather conditions, maintaining a safe following distance, avoiding dangerous overtaking and maneuvers, and refraining from distractions while behind the wheel are essential conditions for safe travel," the statement added.
The MSTPD also addressed pedestrians, warning that crossing roads in unauthorized areas, misjudging vehicle speeds, or using mobile phones while crossing can lead to severe accidents. "Crossing only at designated areas, establishing visual contact with drivers before crossing, and ensuring the path is clear before proceeding is of vital importance," the department noted.
In Azerbaijan, the Main State Traffic Police Department frequently issues such advisories during weekends and public holidays to mitigate risks associated with increased highway traffic. These campaigns are part of a broader national effort to improve road safety standards, reduce traffic-related fatalities, and promote responsible driving behavior across the country's expanding road infrastructure.
