Drivers must prioritize pedestrian safety, while pedestrians are urged to remain vigilant about their own lives and the safety of other road users, according to the Main State Traffic Police Department.

As reported by Operative Information Center-OMM, Rovshan Taghiyev, Head of the Traffic Safety Propaganda Department of the Main State Traffic Police Department and Police Lieutenant Colonel, issued a stern warning regarding the recent increase in traffic accidents involving pedestrians.

Taghiyev noted that the rise in traffic intensity, particularly during the pre-holiday period, has led to a concerning number of accidents. "Analysis shows that some of these accidents are caused by driver negligence, while others stem from irresponsible behavior by pedestrians," he stated.

The official emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility. He highlighted common dangerous behaviors, such as pedestrians failing to use designated crossings, stepping suddenly into traffic, or using mobile phones while crossing multi-lane roads. Taghiyev warned that such actions, especially during nighttime or low-visibility conditions, significantly increase the risk of fatal incidents. He cautioned that pedestrians often mistakenly assume drivers can always see them and stop in time, ignoring factors like high speed, road conditions, and glare.

Furthermore, Taghiyev addressed driver conduct, noting that some motorists fail to adhere to speed limits in residential areas, near schools, or near commercial centers. "Everyone must remember that safety requires mutual responsibility. No amount of haste or distance is worth more than a human life. Adhering to traffic regulations is not just a legal requirement; it is the fundamental condition for preserving life," he added.

In Azerbaijan, the Main State Traffic Police Department frequently conducts awareness campaigns to reduce road fatalities. These initiatives are part of a broader national strategy to modernize traffic management and enhance public safety on the country's expanding road infrastructure.
