False information is currently circulating on social media and various messaging platforms regarding alleged compensation payments for privatization vouchers. These fraudulent messages claim that citizens must register and contact specific mobile numbers to receive payments, which is entirely untrue.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Media Development Agency (MEDIA) confirms that these reports are fabricated and intended to mislead the public.
Authorities have issued a strong warning, urging citizens to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to these scams:
- Do not contact unknown phone numbers.
- Never provide bank card details, ID information, SMS confirmation codes, or any other personal financial data to third parties.
- Do not make any payments requested through these suspicious channels.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the source of these fraudulent claims. Privatization vouchers were historically used in Azerbaijan during the initial stages of the country's economic transition; however, any current claims of government-issued monetary compensation for these vouchers are illegitimate.
