Alen Simonyan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, has not ruled out a potential visit to Baku following his meeting with Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, in Bishkek on September 1.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, Simonyan made these remarks during a press briefing. He noted that the primary focus of his discussions with Hajiyev was the deepening of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"I can say with satisfaction that the Azerbaijani side is taking all steps aimed at establishing peace and will continue to do so," Simonyan stated. He added that both parties have agreed to implement new mechanisms to address outstanding issues.
When asked about a possible visit to the capital of Azerbaijan, the Armenian official stated: "I do not rule out such a visit, but I cannot provide a specific date at this time." Simonyan also mentioned that such a meeting had been planned during the tenure of his predecessor, Armen Grigoryan.
The normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia remains a critical priority for regional stability in the South Caucasus. Following the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over its territories, including the Garabagh region, both nations have been engaged in diplomatic efforts to finalize a comprehensive peace treaty, with international mediators frequently facilitating dialogue between Baku and Yerevan.
