Armenia has set a strategic goal to recover approximately $2 billion in illicitly acquired assets by 2031, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, Pashinyan announced this target during a recent government session. "We have set a goal to return approximately $2 billion worth of illegally acquired assets to the state between 2026 and 2031," the Prime Minister stated.
Pashinyan explained that these expectations have become more realistic as legal mechanisms for the confiscation of illicit property, including financial funds and real estate, have become fully operational. He noted that the process of establishing these legal frameworks took approximately eight years, concluding by the end of 2025 following relevant Constitutional Court rulings and other legislative acts. These objectives have now been formally integrated into the government's development program for the 2026-2031 period.
The recovery of illicit assets has been a central pillar of the Armenian government's anti-corruption agenda in recent years. This initiative reflects broader efforts by the current administration to strengthen state institutions and address long-standing issues related to corruption and the misappropriation of public resources, which have been significant challenges in the country's post-Soviet political landscape.
