During nearly 30 years of occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the illegal exploitation of natural resources, including mineral deposits, involving foreign entities caused serious environmental damage to the region. Large sums generated by these crimes were laundered through international financial channels.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that President Ilham Aliyev said this in a message to participants in the third high-level meeting of heads of law enforcement agencies combating corruption in member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Baku.
The head of state said digital development, particularly the rapid spread of artificial intelligence, has expanded opportunities to combat corruption while also creating new forms of corruption and enabling the misuse of digital financial tools. He said the effective use of modern technological solutions by relevant law enforcement agencies was especially important in preventing and investigating such crimes.
