Corruption is a crime that undermines public trust in state institutions and harms social justice, fair competition and economic development.
President Ilham Aliyev said this in an address to participants of the third high-level meeting of heads of anti-corruption agencies of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.
“In some cases, the cross-border nature of these crimes makes it necessary to take appropriate measures at both the national and international levels. In this regard, the “Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention on Law Enforcement Cooperation among OIC Member States in the Field of Combating Corruption” is a strategic document that establishes a unified legal platform in this area. Azerbaijan’s accession to the Convention is of great importance for developing international cooperation.
Consistent measures are being taken in Azerbaijan to combat corruption. Improving legislation, increasing transparency and accountability in public administration, digitizing public services and ensuring their accessibility, and strengthening public oversight play an important role in preventing corruption,” the head of state said.
