Dutch club Ajax has expressed interest in signing experienced Brazilian midfielder Fred from Turkish side Fenerbahce. According to reports from foreign media outlets cited by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Istanbul-based club is prepared to consider offers for the player only if they successfully finalize the transfer of N'Golo Kante from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
Negotiations between Ajax and Fenerbahce are expected to intensify once the situation regarding Kante is clarified. While it remains uncertain whether the Amsterdam club seeks a permanent transfer or a loan deal, sources suggest that Ajax's current financial constraints make a loan move more likely. Fred, who joined Fenerbahce from Manchester United in August 2023 for a fee of 9.7 million euros, currently has a market value of approximately 7 million euros and is under contract until June 2027.
The 32-year-old midfielder has been a key figure for Fenerbahce this season, recording two goals and one assist in 18 Super Lig appearances. Beyond the interest from the Eredivisie, Fred has also been linked with potential moves to Atletico Mineiro and Olympiacos.
Ajax, historically known for its robust youth academy and strategic veteran signings, is looking to bolster its squad experience following a period of transition in the Dutch league. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, continues to strengthen its roster to maintain its competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions. The potential arrival of Kante would provide the necessary tactical flexibility for the Turkish club to sanction Fred's departure during the upcoming transfer window.
