UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski said he was feeling nervous ahead of his fight with Movsar Yevloyev. The bout is scheduled for an event in Abu Dhabi on October 24.
Volkanovski said he is not usually anxious before fights, but this matchup has made him somewhat tense. He said it is impossible to know in advance what will happen in the octagon and that a fight can end at any moment.
“In training, we prepare for the worst-case scenario, so we apply the heaviest workloads. Working on endurance is the most exhausting part. In this camp, we want to reach the point of no return: all a person can think about is surviving,” the fighter said in a video posted on his channel.
Volkanovski, 37, stressed the importance of maintaining the standards he sets for himself in training. He said skills may not be enough in a fight and plans can fall apart, in which case endurance helps. The fighter added that believing he is less tired than his opponent gives him extra strength.
