Viking play their home matches at Viking Stadion, which has a capacity of 16,300 spectators. Since 2021, the club has been led by Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim and Morten Jensen, who serve as joint head coaches.
They jointly oversee training and tactical preparation. Aarsheim focuses mainly on defense, while Jensen works on attack. Squad selection and other key decisions are discussed and made together. This partnership helped Viking win the Norwegian league title in 2025, ending a 34-year wait. The club’s chairman is Jan Henrik Jelsa.
League and European competitions
The club’s most successful period came in the 1970s: Viking won the Norwegian league four consecutive times, in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. The team currently leads the domestic league with 59 points. Second-placed Bodo/Glimt have the same number of points.
Norwegian players make up the core of Viking’s squad. The team also includes foreign players from Slovakia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and Ghana.
The Norwegian side have lost two of their three previous matches in the UEFA Champions League league phase and drawn one. Viking lost 3-1 to Aston Villa in England and 3-1 to Stuttgart in Germany, and drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich at home.
The Viking-Sabah match will kick off at midnight Baku time in the early hours of November 5.
