US President Donald Trump has reportedly reached a strategic agreement with European leaders during the G7 summit. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from Politico, the parties have agreed to cooperate on issues concerning Iran in exchange for continued support for Ukraine.
Sources familiar with the negotiations indicate that US President Donald Trump pressured his counterparts to support efforts regarding a potential agreement with Iran and the demining of the Strait of Hormuz. While the US leader has publicly downplayed the necessity of European assistance, he has reportedly sought both political and financial support behind closed doors.
According to the source, in exchange for these commitments, US President Donald Trump pledged to maintain support for Ukraine. "Everyone expects him to support Ukraine. He has discussed this specifically with the leaders," the source noted. G7 leaders have expressed readiness to assist under specific conditions.
French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that deploying minesweeping vessels to the region requires formal consent from the United States, as well as from Iran and Oman, the parties involved in the agreement. The G7, or Group of Seven, is an intergovernmental political forum consisting of seven of the world's largest advanced economies. It serves as a platform for coordinating responses to global economic, security, and geopolitical challenges.
Notably, in the joint statement released at the conclusion of the summit, G7 leaders announced a decision to increase the supply of air defense systems and long-range weaponry to Ukraine.
