US President Donald Trump and the country’s national security team have reviewed scenarios for resuming large-scale military operations against Iran in the coming weeks, as well as possible military options.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that at a closed-door meeting last week at the presidential retreat in Camp David, White House officials discussed the US strategic approach to Iran and Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement. Following the meeting, the Pentagon presented Trump with new plans for military operations, but no final decision has been made.
No precise timeline has been provided for a possible resumption of military operations. NBC notes that the US leader must also take into account shrinking American stocks of strategic weapons and ammunition when weighing military options, and has expressed dissatisfaction with the situation.
Meanwhile, The Atlantic, citing US officials, reports that the White House has instructed the Defense Department to draw up a plan to prepare for strikes on military sites in Iran before the congressional midterm elections scheduled for November 3 in the United States.
Military tensions in the region reached their peak after US and Israeli forces began striking strategic sites in Iran on February 28, followed by Tehran’s retaliatory measures. Although a memorandum on halting military operations was signed in June, reciprocal missile and air strikes between the sides have continued, and the conflict remains unresolved.
