Collective action based on people-centered urban development is essential to address global housing challenges, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anaclaudia Rossbach has said.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Rossbach made these remarks during her address at the World Urban Forum, emphasizing the need to restore housing provision as a public responsibility. "We must empower cities and communities. We must end forced evictions and protect vulnerable communities," Rossbach stated, adding that housing finance mechanisms must also undergo a fundamental transformation.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. Notably, Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is designated to host the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in 2026, reflecting the country's active role in promoting sustainable urban development and international cooperation.
