Azerbaijan futsal player Ulvi Aliyev said the team is targeting victory in its next match after a 2-2 home draw with the Czech Republic in the qualifying stage for the 2028 FIFA Futsal World Cup. In an interview with sportify.az, he thanked the fans in Lankaran.
Aliyev said Lankaran had experienced a level of futsal excitement that had not been felt there for a long time. He said he had not seen such an atmosphere elsewhere in Azerbaijan and expressed his gratitude to the fans on behalf of the team.
The futsal player described the Czech Republic as a strong and consistent team. In his view, Azerbaijan’s national team has developed in recent years and is beginning to make its mark on the European stage. Aliyev said he considered the result a good one, but the team had wanted to win and luck had not yet been on its side.
Aliyev, who scored in the match, said he would have wanted his team to win even if he had not found the net. He said he had felt fully prepared for the game, had been working toward it for days after the previous meeting with the Czech Republic, and wanted to perform better in front of his fellow citizens.
Aliyev also said he would like futsal matches to be held more often in the regions. He said many people in Baku support futsal, but the regions have a special atmosphere and a strong sense of affection from the fans.
The futsal player said victory would be the team’s main objective in its next match. He said the coaches and players were working hard to achieve that, the team was ready and they wanted to make the public happy with a win.
