Ukraine strikes major oil refinery and petrochemical complex in Bashkortostan

Ukraine’s Armed Forces said the strike caused a fire at Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, a Russian strategic facility, and dealt a blow to supplies for the occupying army.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces said they had struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery and petrochemical complex in the city of Salavat, in Russia’s Republic of Bashkortostan.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Ukraine’s General Staff announced the strike on its Telegram channel.

The statement said the strike sparked a major fire at the facility.

Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat is one of Russia’s largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes, according to the report. The facility has the capacity to process up to 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbon feedstock a year.

The complex produces motor gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, polyethylene and other petrochemical products.

Ukraine said the facility is used to meet the needs of the Russian army.
