Typhoon Dujuan death toll in eastern Japan rises to nine

The death toll from Typhoon Dujuan, which hit eastern Japan earlier this week, has risen to nine, local media reported on Wednesday.

Kyodo News Agency, citing local authorities, said the body of a woman was found in Kanagawa Prefecture, while a man was recovered from a submerged vehicle in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo.

Search operations are continuing for four people who remain missing. Six of the confirmed victims died in Chiba and three in Kanagawa.

Chiba among the worst-hit areas

The typhoon caused particularly severe damage in Chiba, which had already been affected by heavy rain and flooding in August and early September.
