US President Donald Trump has announced that President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have pledged not to sell weapons to Iran.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Trump shared these details via his social media account.
Trump stated that during his recent meeting with Xi Jinping in Beijing, the Chinese leader assured him that China would not provide or sell weapons to the Islamic Republic, a commitment that extends to Chinese companies as well. "Given our relationship, I believe him. Besides, I am doing many great things for him," Trump noted.
The US President added that despite the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has also assured him that Russia will not sell weapons to Iran. Trump emphasized that the US does not sell weapons directly to Ukraine; rather, arms are sold to NATO countries, which pay in full, and the subsequent distribution of those weapons is not under US control.
"The two biggest countries that are most often mentioned in connection with Iran, in my opinion, are not participating in this process. If they were to participate, it would be very bad for them. It is absolutely not in their interest," Trump added.
This development comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and ongoing international scrutiny regarding Iran's military capabilities and its network of regional proxies. The commitments from Beijing and Moscow, if upheld, would represent a significant shift in the diplomatic landscape surrounding Iran's defense procurement, as both nations have historically maintained complex strategic ties with Tehran.
