U.S. President Donald Trump made further forceful statements about the ongoing military and political tensions with Iran while speaking to supporters in Nebraska.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the White House chief described the risk of damage to Los Angeles and San Diego as a “very small price” for securing a “great victory” over Iran.
Based on his own assessment, Trump said the conflict was “almost over” and would end soon.
Analysts say Washington’s main strategy is to bring down the Tehran government by imposing an economic blockade through the Strait of Hormuz rather than launching a large-scale war. Although Trump said on October 3 that Iran had backed away from claims concerning nuclear weapons, oil prices had stabilized and oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz were continuing, he also stressed that he was open to direct talks: “We can resolve this the good way or the bad way.”
Several ceasefires were announced between the sides during 2026, but the agreements were later violated. In July, Trump said the ceasefire had ended and that negotiations were a waste of time. In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and noted that the sides’ earlier ceasefire memorandum remained fragile.
