US President Donald Trump said he hopes the war with Iran is nearing its end. He said Tehran wants to reach an agreement.
According to Trump, the war that began on Feb. 28 is approaching its seventh month. The Axios news outlet reported that the US president plans to meet with the leaders of Persian Gulf countries in New York next week to discuss the conflict and a post-war strategy.
Iran-China talks
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with Chinese officials had been successful. He stressed that Iran remains committed to its strategic partnership with Beijing.
Araghchi wrote on the social network “X” that the decisions being made now could shape the strategic balance in the region for years to come. The minister said he supports Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four principles for regional peace.
The framework proposed by China calls for the peaceful coexistence of neighboring states, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, compliance with international law, and maintaining a balance between security and economic development.
Consequences of the conflict
Reuters reported that thousands of people have been killed and millions of residents have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the war that began on Feb. 28.
