US President Donald Trump described a three-hour meeting between US and Iranian delegations in New York as “very good” and “productive.”
Trump said another meeting between the sides was planned soon. US special envoy Steve Witkoff said the talks were held with the participation of mediators on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Mediators took part in talks
According to the report, the Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Pakistan and Qatar reportedly mediated the meeting.
Ship traffic declines in Strait of Hormuz
Three commercial vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. This was down from four vessels recorded the previous day and below the 10-day average of about 15 vessels.
Preliminary shipping data indicate that the figures may change, as some vessels switch off their transponders during voyages.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key global energy shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. Changes in vessel traffic through the strait are closely monitored because disruptions there can affect international trade and energy markets.
