Tokayev arrives in South Korea for state visit

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has begun official meetings in Seoul. Discussions are expected to focus on the Central Asia-Republic of Korea summit and strategic cooperation.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived in the Republic of Korea for a state visit at the invitation of his Korean counterpart, Lee Jae-myung.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the information was released by the press service of the Kazakh leader.

According to the statement, Tokayev was received at Seoul airport by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon.

Tokayev traveled directly to Seoul overnight from New Delhi, where he had attended the BRICS summit.

High-level talks are scheduled to take place in Seoul on September 15. The discussions are expected to focus on prospects for strengthening the expanded strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and South Korea.

Meetings between the president and the heads of leading South Korean companies are also planned, according to the statement.

On September 16, Tokayev will take part in the first Central Asia-Republic of Korea summit.

The summit is expected to provide a platform for dialogue between South Korea and the Central Asian states on trade, investment, transport, technology and other areas of cooperation. Kazakhstan and South Korea have maintained diplomatic relations since 1992 and have developed ties in energy, industry, education and digital technologies.
