A supertanker with a capacity of 2.5 million barrels was hit and caught fire on Thursday in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency reported.
The vessel was reportedly struck about 8 kilometres (5 miles) off the coast of Oman while travelling on an “unauthorized route” through the waterway.
Details about the vessel, the cause of the incident and any possible casualties were not immediately available.
