The UK is preparing for Storm Boelo, the second named storm of the season, which is expected to bring the worst of the weather to northern areas on Saturday, according to the Met Office. Anadolu Agency reported the forecast.
The strongest winds are expected across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England, forecasters said.
“Storm Boelo will bring strong winds and heavy rain to Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of northern England over the weekend, impacting the opposite end of the country to Storm Austen,” Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the winds would be accompanied by heavy rain, making for an impactful weekend. Severe weather warnings and forecast details are expected to develop, and people were advised to keep up to date with forecasts over the coming days.
Boelo is expected to arrive less than 48 hours after the announcement of the season’s first named storm, Austen, which is forecast to reach the UK on Friday.
The Met Office has issued one amber and two yellow wind warnings for Austen, covering Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and parts of western Devon.
“Storm Boelo is a separate low pressure system to Storm Austen, which will bring strong wind and heavy rain to southern parts on Thursday night and Friday. Storm Austen clears into the North Sea by Friday evening,” the Met Office said.
