Sporting Lisbon head coach Rui Borges has left his post. A Bola and other Portuguese publications reported that the club’s management began talks to terminate his employment contract after meeting with Borges.
Tiago Fernandes will take over the head coach’s duties on an interim basis. The club is expected to announce the name of its new head coach soon.
Fabrizio Romano and A Bola previously reported that Sporting’s next head coach could be Paulo Fonseca, who currently manages French club Lyon. Both teams are currently third in their respective domestic leagues.
Sporting’s official website, cited by Portuguese publications, has been inaccessible since last night. As a result, it was not possible to verify a statement published there by the club.
