Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca.

According to the kingdom’s statement, the drone was shot down before it entered restricted airspace over the holy city. Attacks by the Iran-aligned Houthis have further heightened tensions in the region.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned Houthi attacks targeting the Mecca and Medina regions. The organization described the attacks as “heinous,” saying they were intended to terrorize civilians and violate the inviolability of holy sites and mosques.

The OIC stressed that attacks on holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure constitute acts of terrorism and violate Islamic values and international law. It expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supported measures taken by the kingdom to protect holy sites, civilians, security and sovereignty.

The United States has raised its travel advisory for Saudi Arabia to Level 3 in connection with the conflict in Yemen, recommending that its citizens reconsider travel.

The US State Department said Iran could use drones and missiles against US interests, while warning of risks linked to armed conflict, terrorism, exit bans and local laws. The neighboring country of Yemen remains under a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory.
