Russia has not yet received an official invitation to join the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports, citing TASS, that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this while commenting on Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s recent proposal for Moscow to join the OTS.
“As far as I understand, there has been no official invitation. Nevertheless, this topic will certainly be on the agenda of our relations, including with Astana and our friends there,” the Kremlin representative said.
Peskov said there are several regions in the Russian Federation whose peoples are historically Turkic, adding that Russia’s joining the OTS could be understandable and appropriate.
Tokayev proposed that Russia join the organization as a member or observer at the OTS summit held in Ankara.
