US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to discuss strategic cooperation in the energy and mining sectors.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the US Department of State, the officials focused on formalizing bilateral partnerships regarding the exploration, production, and processing of critical minerals. Both parties welcomed the recent trade agreement reached between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under this agreement, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would reduce tariffs on goods imported from India from 25% to 18%.

This meeting underscores the strengthening of the US-India strategic partnership under the administration of US President Donald Trump. The focus on critical minerals is particularly significant as both nations seek to secure supply chains for high-tech industries and transition toward sustainable energy solutions. The reduction in tariffs is expected to bolster bilateral trade, which has seen significant growth as India becomes an increasingly vital economic partner for the United States in the Indo-Pacific region.
