Russian President Vladimir Putin told US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff that Moscow was ready to resume trilateral peace negotiations on Ukraine around Nov. 10, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Wednesday, according to Anadolu Agency.
Putin hosted Witkoff in the Russian city of St. Petersburg for talks that lasted about three hours. Ushakov told reporters that Russia was, in principle, prepared to restart the negotiations around Nov. 10.
Ushakov said Moscow’s readiness particularly concerned building a post-war “security system” for Moscow and Kyiv, adding that the situation around Ukraine was a central topic of the discussions.
Putin praised the current US administration’s mediation efforts in the ongoing war, Ushakov said. He added that Putin told Witkoff Russia was ready to help seek political and diplomatic solutions to the situation around Iran.
“Vladimir Putin emphasized that diplomatic opportunities are far from exhausted. And that it is possible and necessary to reach an agreement with Tehran, our strategic partner,” Ushakov said.
Ushakov also said Witkoff briefed Putin on the substance of talks he attended Tuesday in Oslo, Norway, which included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Witkoff said Moscow’s decision to release US citizen Stephen Hubbard would be appreciated by US President Donald Trump and the American public, Ushakov added.
Hubbard was handed over to Witkoff at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg for his return to the United States after his release, Ushakov said.
