Albaniyada lüks tikinti layihələrinə qarşı etirazlar keçirildi

Protests have erupted in Albania as local residents voice strong opposition to luxury construction projects planned for environmentally sensitive areas.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, hundreds of residents in the village of Rjoll, located in the country's northwest, staged a demonstration to protest what they describe as the illegal seizure of their land for tourism development. Demonstrators dismantled perimeter fencing surrounding the site and chanted slogans demanding the protection of their property rights.

Landowner Zeke Nikolle Shullani, a participant in the protest, stated that villagers intend to continue their struggle until fair compensation is provided, noting that approximately 200 families have been affected by the land confiscations. Another local resident, Nikolin Markpalaj, criticized investors for failing to consult with the community, describing the current situation as untenable.

Tensions in the region are largely driven by a proposed $4 billion luxury resort project near Vlora, which involves an investment firm linked to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump. The project, slated for a protected area that serves as a habitat for flamingos and sea turtles, has sparked significant debate. While environmentalists and locals raise concerns about ecological impact and property rights, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has defended the initiative, asserting that the project complies with national legislation and environmental standards.
