The supply of gasoline and diesel fuel by Azerbaijan serves as a significant contribution to Armenia's energy security, President Ilham Aliyev stated.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The head of state emphasized that the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the initialing of a peace treaty, and the signing of a Joint Declaration in Washington at the White House, with the participation and signature of US President Donald Trump, effectively ended a conflict that had lasted for 30 years.
"Immediately following this agreement, Azerbaijan proceeded with practical, concrete steps. The gasoline and diesel fuel currently supplied by Azerbaijan to Armenia represent a major contribution to Armenia's energy security, especially considering the existing challenges regarding the import and export of oil products. The transit of goods through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia has expanded significantly, with over 40,000 tons of cargo having passed through the country to date," the President noted.
This development marks a pivotal shift in South Caucasus geopolitics. Following the resolution of the decades-long conflict, the establishment of transit corridors and energy cooperation initiatives reflects a broader regional strategy aimed at fostering economic interdependence and long-term stability between Baku and Yerevan.
