The 13th Global Baku Forum, titled "Addressing Fragmentations in a World in Transition," has commenced at the Gulustan Palace in Baku under the patronage of President Ilham Aliyev and the organization of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev attended and delivered a comprehensive speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, which brings together world leaders, diplomats, and Nobel laureates.

In his address, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that security and stability must remain the top priorities for every nation. Highlighting Azerbaijan's successful restoration of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the head of state noted that the country has transitioned into a period of peace. "We have already been living in peace for seven months. This demonstrates that with strong political will and commitment to justice, goals can be achieved. We restored our territorial integrity within the framework of international law and the UN Charter," the President stated. He also touched upon Azerbaijan's role as a reliable energy supplier and its contributions to global connectivity through the Middle Corridor and North-South transport routes.

The Global Baku Forum has evolved into a premier international platform for discussing complex global challenges, often compared to the World Economic Forum in Davos for its influence and the high level of its participants. Established in 2013, the forum provides a space for former and current heads of state, ministers, and scholars to exchange ideas on peace, security, and sustainable development. This year's event specifically focuses on navigating the geopolitical shifts and economic uncertainties defining the current global era, reinforcing Azerbaijan's growing role as a diplomatic hub between the East and the West.

Key highlights from the opening session

  • Regional Peace: President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the normalization process with Armenia, noting that peace was achieved through bilateral efforts without the need for external mediators.
  • Energy Security: The President reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to stabilizing global energy markets as a responsible member of OPEC+.
  • Connectivity: Discussions included the development of the Middle Corridor, which is set to integrate regional transport networks and enhance trade between Europe and Asia.

Co-chairs of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Ismail Serageldin and Vaira Vike-Freiberga, also addressed the ceremony, praising Azerbaijan's hospitality and the President's vision in fostering international dialogue. The forum continues with panel sessions covering climate change, global health, and the future of multilateralism.
