Pakistan police complex attack death toll rises to 31

The death toll from a suicide attack on a police complex in Pakistan has risen to 31, AFP reported, citing a police official.

The incident occurred on Friday at the Old Police Lines complex in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into the entrance gate of the police facility.

Police officers and their family members were praying at a mosque during the attack. The blast created a crater in front of the mosque located inside the complex.

According to police, six “terrorists,” including a suicide bomber, were killed in the incident. The head of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police said another suicide blast occurred in a Special Branch police building during the exchange of fire.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a spokesman for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, strongly condemned the attack on the social network “X.” He described attacks on holy sites as “unjustified and unacceptable” and expressed condolences to the families of those killed.

Separately, Pakistani security forces killed seven militants during two operations in the southwestern province of Balochistan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has faced repeated attacks targeting security forces and other public facilities. Pakistani authorities regularly conduct counterterrorism operations in the province and in Balochistan, where militant activity has also remained a security concern.
