Azerbaijani gymnast Nikita Simonov assessed his performance at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, saying he fell 0.133 points short of reaching the final.
Simonov wrote on social media that he had planned to achieve a better result but scaled back his routine because of health problems. He said he was first among the athletes awaiting qualification for the final, but could not perform the elements he had planned.
“I did not give it my maximum, I did not take risks, I got sick... It happens; I am not made of iron,” Simonov said. He called the result a lesson and a valuable experience.
The Azerbaijani representative said he would work more thoroughly on his mistakes, carefully plan training camps and preparation, and devote more time to recovery. Simonov noted that a new season lies ahead, as does the struggle to qualify for the 2027 Olympic Games.
The World Championships ended on October 25.
